About · The team

A practice, not a firm.

Principia is the independent practice of Allan Ross - programme recovery specialist and thirty-year capital delivery practitioner - working with a small group of associate directors assembled around each engagement, not a bench of consultants assigned to it.

Principia is the independent practice of Allan Ross - programme recovery specialist and thirty-year capital delivery practitioner, with a track record across power generation, transmission, regulated utilities, public infrastructure, defence, construction and industrial programmes.

The thread through that work is recovery: programmes where reporting and reality had parted company, often where someone else had tried and failed, brought back to a credible, defensible position. Alongside recovery, Allan leads first-of-a-kind delivery - the current engagement is a hydrogen production facility, delivered under NEC4 Option C and COMAH regulation.

Principia exists to offer the same senior, embedded, owner-side discipline to organisations who need it once - and need it done properly.

The practice, by name.

Allan Ross

Allan Ross

Founder · Principal Director

Thirty years leading the recovery of major capital programmes across power generation, transmission, regulated utilities, public infrastructure, defence, construction and industrial sectors, typically stepping in once a board can no longer trust the reporting it is being given. Currently leading a first-of-a-kind hydrogen production facility under NEC4 Option C, COMAH-regulated, alongside the recovery work that has defined most of the last three decades.

Ian Travers

Ian Travers

Associate Director · Forensic & Human Performance

Thirty years in industrial and project environments, including Head of Project and Programme Management for Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace, and interim executive roles rebuilding project management capability for owner organisations. His second area of focus is less commonly found alongside the first: the human and cultural side of programme performance, how teams and leadership actually hold up once the pressure starts.

Associate · UK-based
Mark Butler

Mark Butler

Associate Director · Programme

Over forty years across the full investment and delivery lifecycle - concept, FEED, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning - in chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, energy and nuclear sectors. Boards call on him for two connected reasons: to re-baseline programmes that have lost control or client confidence, and to test, before capital is committed, whether a technology or investment case is genuinely deliverable.

Associate Director · Project Controls

Extensive international project controls experience across all project phases and multiple industries, grounded in post-contract claims and construction law. Cost and schedule discipline is the through-line - EVM, KPI trending, forecast-to-completion reporting - built to give owner organisations an accurate, current picture of where a programme actually stands, at project, programme or portfolio level.
